Så var det dags att spana in årets sista spännande titlar från de stora amerikanska serieförlagen. Precis som för november månad så har jag valt att banta listan rejält när det gäller nyheter från DC och Marvel som mest bjuder på ointressanta spinn-offs till event jag aldrig kommer att ta i med tång.

Kommentar: Frank Millers The Dark Knight Returns är utan tvekan en modern klassiker och Miller har vid ett flertal tillfällen återvänt till detta DC-universa tillsammans med andra tecknare – och med blandat resultat. Nu är det dags igen och den här gången får han även sällskap av den mycket skicklige brasilianske tecknaren Rafael Grampá, vilket gör anrättningen intressant i mina ögon.

Kommentar: Daniel Warren Johnson är en serieskapare som jag håller mycket högt, speciellt hans tyvärr avsomnade webbserie Space-Mullet men också den mycket läsvärda Extremity. Den här gången får han spänna bågen med en helt egen miniserie med Wonder Woman, fri från DC:s övriga kontinuitet, där prinsessan Diana av Themyscira vaknar upp i en postapokalyptisk värld efter en 100-årig törnrosasömn.

Kommentar: December månad hos Marvel Comics bjuder inte på mycket nytt att hänga i julgranen – mest olika one-shots från nygamla events som Annihilation och 2099. En nystart fångade dock mitt intresse, nämligen Doctor Strange vars skadade händer nu mirakulöst har läkt. Doctor Stranges skadade händer var orsaken till att den tidigare stjärnkirurgen och playboyen överhuvudtaget lämnade kirurgyrket för att bli Magins mästare och det ska bli spännande att se vad Mark Waid kokat ihop den här gången och dessutom tillsammans med den skicklige tecknaren Kev Walker.

Kommentar: Jag hoppar medvetet över flera nya titlar som mest är spinn-offs till olika events från de större förlagen och därmed ointressanta i mina ögon och detta gäller även Lucy Claire: Redemption – fast av en helt annan anledning. Seriens skapare John Upchurch är mer känd under sin pseudonym Roc Upchurch och det var under det namnet han var med och skapade succén Rat Queens tillsammans med Kurtis J. Wiebe. Upchurch tvingades lämna titeln efter att bland annat ha misshandlat sin fru men verkar nu ha tagits till nåder av samma förlag som innan dess inte ville ta i honom med tång och dessutom med en titel som inte ens subtilt försöker understryka att han skulle vara ett offer i sammanhanget och att karaktären Lucy Claires väg mot upprättelse är en dålig och osmaklig version av honom själv och hans egen väg tillbaka. Detta faktum ger mig en dålig smak i munnen och betyget är enbart en uppmaning: köp inte skit från den här mannen!

Det verkar bli ett mycket lyckosamt år för BOOM! Studios vad gäller nya spännande titlar.

Det är åter dags att sjunka ner i den sköna läsfåtöljen lagom till jul (även om den säkert inte kommer dyka upp i julstrumpan förrän i januari) och avnjuta den senaste julspecialen med Klaus av Grant Morrison och Dan Mora som den här gången bjuder på en ordlös berättelse om Joe Christmas i häftigt kalenderformat. Solklar prenumeration!!!
MÅNADENS TIPS
Valet och kvalet står mellan The Old Guard: Force Multiplied, Tales from Harrow County: Death’s Choir och så naturligtvis Klaus and the Life and Times of Joe Christmas och om jag bara fick välja en så blir det utan tvekan fortsättningen på Greg Rucka och Leandro Fernandez underbara serie.
